Who it is for

Places of worship

Largely run by volunteers, often in a listed building, frequently hosting events that bring their own duties. The knowledge tends to live with one person, and it leaves when they do.

What usually applies

A starting point, not a determination. Which of these actually lands on your register depends on the building and how it is used, which is what the applicability questions are for.

Fire safety Asbestos Electrical safety Legionella Martyn's Law Health and safety

What tends to matter here

  • The register is the handover. When a churchwarden or trustee changes, what has to be done and when it was last done is in the system rather than in somebody's head.
  • Volunteers acknowledge procedures by link, without accounts.
  • Events that raise capacity are visible against the premises, which is what usually changes the duty set.
  • Old buildings bring asbestos and legionella duties that a modern office does not, and the applicability questions ask about them.
